The Hybrid Air/Foam mattress design allows Kulkyne to manufacture a compact yet extremely comfortable Biker Swag.
The secret is in using foam sparingly in areas where it’s needed for comfort under the heaviest parts of the body, but air to do the bulk of the work in supporting you while you sleep.
The Kulkyne Biker Swag
The swag itself is designed to be light and waterproof using a high quality 230 gsm canvas and 280 gsm tub type PVC floor with hot sealed corners.
The Biker Carry Bags
This Biker Swag is supplied with two carry bags. The main cylindrical carry bag is designed to hold the whole swag including poles and sleeping gear up to 1.2 kgs. It has four D-rings at the base so you can secure the carry bag to your motorbike, and four strap points on top so that you can attach the bonus gear carry bag supplied with this swag.
The smaller bonus rectangular bag is for your general use and is not required to carry any part of the swag.
Sleeping Gear?
Room has been allowed in the main carry bag to leave up to 1.2 kgs of bedding in the swag when rolled up. This means you can use and carry a light weight sleeping bag or a blanket with your new Biker Swag.
Using the Swag Door as a Fly
The main canvas side entrances of the swag have eyelets so that you can rope the canvas flap to your motorcycle and use it as a fly area to keep your gear out of the weather when required.
The Hybrid Mattress
The Biker Hybrid Mattress uses 20mm of foam under your shoulders and back, and 40mm under your butt on top of 40mm of air, giving you an extremely comfortable mattress for a great night’s sleep, and just as importantly, a safe next day’s ride free from fatigue.
Another great feature of the Hybrid Mattress design is that you can adjust the air pressure in the mattress to give you a feel anywhere from soft to firm, meaning you’ll find a comfort zone that you can call your own!
Biker Swag: Questions & Answers
Q: Should I be Worried About Air?
A: If you clear the ground of sharp objects, you shouldn’t have any issues with punctures. You hardly need any air pressure in our Hybrid Mattress when sleeping so it’s not like popping a balloon. The air mattress is kept as a spare part, and you can replace it without having to throw away the whole Hybrid Mattress. The air mattress is also repairable with a basic puncture repair kit.
Q: Do I need a pump for the Hybrid Mattress?
A: Yes, you will need to carry an air mattress pump to inflate the Hybrid Mattress. A motorcycle tyre pump will not be suitable as these pumps are designed for high pressure and low volumes. The Hybrid Mattress on the other hand requires a pump that is designed to produce high volume at low pressures. The good news is that these pumps are available at any camping shop and are cheap and light weight.
Q: Is the Hybrid Mattress cold to sleep on?
A: The padded cover of the Hybrid Mattress and the 20mm of foam separating your body from the air help this mattress not be too cold. It’s a fantastic mattress in summer as it’s not too hot, but if you are using it in really cold weather you might want to consider inserting a foil survival blanket inside the Hybrid Mattress. This is a cheap solution and easy to do.
Q: What about my Pillow?
A: The Hybrid Mattress itself has 110mm of air below the head area. This will be suitable instead of a pillow for some sleepers, while others might want to use an item of clothing on top of the air to raise their head a little more. The air combined with the clothing will provide a comfortable pillow without you having to take up valuable space and weight carrying an extra pillow on your trip.
Q: Are the Carry Bags waterproof?
A: Yes, we use a high-quality PVC to manufacture the bags and also waterproof YKK zips on both bags.
Q: How much does the Biker Swag weigh?
A: The Biker Swag and main carry bag weighs 7.9 kgs. If you add 1.1kgs of bedding this will take you up to 9.0 kgs. The secondary carry bag weighs 230 grams plus whatever else you put in it.
Q: How big is the Biker Swag when set up?
A: The footprint of the swag is 215cms long by 95cms wide. The maximum height person we recommend this swag for is 200 cms as some usable room is lost with the slant-in of the ends of the swag.
Q: How big is the Biker Swag when packed up?
A: Including 1.1 kgs of bedding the swag rolls up to 60 cms long by 30 cms in diameter.
Q: Which pump is best for the Hybrid Mattress?
A: As size and weight are the prime consideration for bikers, we’d recommend a basic 12v pump that you can connect to your motorcycle start battery, these generally weigh around 250 grams. The male pump fitting will also need to suit an 18mm valve.
Q: Do you sell sleeping bags for the Biker Swag?
A: No we don't. What type of sleeping bag you require will depend on what time of year you use the Biker Swag. In summer a cheaper sleeping bag will be suitable, but in winter you will need a quite expensive compact cold weather sleeping bag to meet the maximum 1.2 kg weight/size requirement and to keep you warm.
Please understand that when we talk about a 1.2 kg maximum we are not so much worried about the actual weight, but the size the sleeping bag packs up to. Sleeping bags under 1.2 kgs are generally very compact and suitable for the compact Biker Swag.
